Gôl Cymru in Azerbaijan – Back to the Land of Fire!

On the eve of the Wales match against Azerbaijan in Baku, Gôl Cymru donated goods and gifts to two children’s centres in the city. The Social Service Centre #No2 in Saray offers residential care to over 160 children with physical and learning disabilities. The centre gives one-to-one and group sessions, sensory development and focusses on developing independent living skills. Gôl donated specialist chairs which mean that children with cerebral palsy can participate in activities.

Secondly, we visited the Joy Centre which provides intensive therapy and rehabilitation work for 100 children. The children are helped develop social, language and life skills. The Wales supporters helped a small group learning how to plant seeds and donated two cupboards full of educational and therapeutic toys and games.

Gôl Cymru in Slovakia

The day after our draw against Slovakia, the Wales supporters’ charity, Gôl Cymru, visited a children’s sanatorium in Trnava with a donation of €500. The facility offers care and rehabilitation to children between the ages of 3-6 who suffer from mobility and respiratory issues.

The Wales fans were welcomed with open arms. The centre director, Mrs. Zvonarova, said, “Just as important as the financial gift you are giving, it’s worth the world to us that you care and are giving the children hope that they can grow up and travel like you.”

Gôl Cymru’s Thomas Griffiths said, “I was humbled to see the facilities and care given. All the children had smiles on their faces, which is a testament to the fantastic and dedicated work of the staff there. We hope that our contribution goes some way to helping them continue with their great work.”

Thanks to Leigh James for organising the pre-match fundraiser and to all our fans for helping us donate to children’s charities and promote a positive image of our supporters and our country. You can donate to Gôl Cymru here: www.justgiving.com/gol

Gôl in Hungary

On the morning of the Hungary v Wales match, Gôl visited a children’s home in Menyeksce U. in Buda with a donation of £400 which the children’s committee are planning to spend on games and sporting equipment.

The home provides accommodation and education for children aged 8 to 18. Unsurprisingly, we ended up playing football. We were also treated to a musical performance by the children and they enjoyed trying to say, “Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch” and learning about Wales.

It was good to have the EatSleepFootyRepeat lads join us too.

Gôl in Croatia

On the eve of the Croatia v Wales game, representatives of Gôl visited a children’s home at 32 Ruzina Street in Osijek with a donation of £400 worth of Decathlon vouchers.

As well as offering shelter for children without parents, this home provides educational and leisure activities for children from poor and vulnerable backgrounds. Using sport as a way to integrate young people into society, they regularly take their beneficiaries around the country and the world to participate in sporting activities. We were pleased to hear stories of the wonderful work they do, to spend time with the children and, most importantly, make a difference.

Also prior to the Croatia v Wales game, three representatives of Gôl (all called Kevin) visited a children’s home for boys in Zagreb with a donation of PlayStation games, football shirts, t shirts and flags to the value of 400 Euros.

We were pleased to be able to share stories of our work and to hear about the difference they make to children in need.
